Walgreens: no new Medicaid patients as of April 16..

Effective April 16, Walgreens drugstores across the state won't take any new Medicaid patients, saying that filling their prescriptions is a money-losing proposition — the latest development in an ongoing dispute over Medicaid reimbursement. The company, which operates 121 stores in the state, will continue filling Medicaid prescriptions for current patients. In a news release, Walgreens said its decision to not take new Medicaid patients stemmed from a "continued reduction in reimbursement" under the state's Medicaid program, which reimburses it at less than the break-even point for 95 percent of brand-name medications dispensed to Medicaid patents. Walgreens will no longer accept new Medicaid patients in Washington state as of April 16. The pharmacy company, which operates 121 stores in the state, will continue filling Medicaid prescriptions for current patients. In a news release, the company said its decision to not take new Medicaid patients stemmed from a "continued reduction in reimbursement under the state's program." The company says that under the current payment structure, the state Medicaid program is reimbursing Walgreens below its cost to break even on nearly 95 percent of brand-name medications dispensed to Medicaid patents. Other pharmacies have made similar decisions recently.

Great granny! Clerk, 91, battles thug

A feisty 91-year-old Long Island pharmacy cashier fought with a robber -- then insisted on finishing her work shift. "I want him to get caught because I want to smack him," said Florence Critelli after completing her day's work at the Rite Aid Pharmacy in East Northport. Critelli was behind the register just before 11 a.m. when a man gave her a dollar for a candy bar. When she opened the register to get his change, the thief reached over and helped himself to a handful of cash. Critelli leaped into action.

Idaho Pharmacist Who Wrestled Down And Captured An Armed Robber Was Fired

An Idaho pharmacist who wrestled down an armed robber was fired. A pharmacist who fought off an armed robber in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho was awarded a special award from the city. But his award from his employer was termination because he fought and captured the robber. He chased an armed gunman who stole prescription medications, and was able to tackle him outside the store. He confronted the man who informed him he had a gun and started reaching for his pocket. But, the former college wrestler tackled him. As often happens, the robber accidentally dropped his gun....
